Vapor Intrusion Assessment and Mitigation System Designs
Services

Purpose:
To screen property for potentially harmful vapor exposure pathways and design mitigation systems to prevent intrusion into structures.
Description of Service:
The presence of volatile contaminants below or adjacent to buildings can result in migration of vapors into the interior of structures resulting in potential health and safety risks to occupants. Otwell Mawby has extensive experience in evaluating this potential exposure pathway that includes initial screening of sites during the Phase I ESA process, utilizing the ASTM E2600-15, Standard Guide for Vapor Encroachment Screening on Property Involved in Real Estate Transactions.
At sites where vapor intrusion is known or is thought to be a potential concern, we also have extensive experience with onsite sampling to evaluate the pathway, including collection of soil, groundwater, soil gas, and indoor air samples.
At sites where vapor intrusion is present, we provide mitigation system design services associated with both passive and active mitigation systems. Once systems are operational, Otwell Mawby staff can assist new owners and operators to facilitate operations, maintenance, and monitoring (OM&M) activities to ensure the mitigation systems are properly working, are in operational compliance, and are providing adequate protection to building occupants.
