Purpose:
To inspect structures for asbestos and/or lead prior to renovation or demolition to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and prevent a potential exposure to occupants and/or the environment.
Description of Services:
Building Inspections
Otwell Mawby can provide certified professionals to complete inspections for asbestos containing building materials. Inspections can be completed prior to building renovations or demolition as required by the EPA/ the State of Michigan or to satisfy OSHA requirements. We also provide OSHA regulations compliance inspections and asbestos re-inspections for schools.
Project Design
Otwell Mawby can provide a state certified asbestos Project Designer to complete removal specifications prior to renovations or demolition. The specifications can include the bid documents, insurance requirements and technical requirements for asbestos removal.
Otwell Mawby can also conduct a contractor pre-bid meeting, assist with the contracting, bid award recommendations, and provide project oversight.
Project Management and Air Sampling
Otwell Mawby has certified Asbestos Management Planners that can provide regulatory solutions to effectively manage asbestos in place while preventing a potential exposure.
During asbestos removal, Otwell Mawby can provide oversight to assure the contractor is complying with the applicable regulations and contract specifications. Otwell Mawby can provide air sampling services before, during and after abatement as required by OSHA and/or the EPA. We have staff trained in accordance with the NIOSH 7400 Method for fiber counting using Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM). We offer mobile PCM laboratory analysis for onsite results.
Training
Otwell Mawby can provide asbestos awareness and several courses for miscellaneous materials removal and 16-hour operations and maintenance.
Other Pre-Demolition Inspections
In addition to asbestos, Otwell Mawby, P.C. has extensive experience in other pre-demolition inspections, including sampling for potential contaminants such as cadmium, lead, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), etc., creating inventories of chemicals and other products for future recycling/ disposal. We also have extensive experience in evaluating numerous contaminants in air, settled dust, soil, water and building materials. Our experience includes facilitating removal/management of these materials, obtaining waste disposal approvals, and ensuring potential future exposure risks are remediated or mitigated.
